Introduction to Unweighted Tuning Forks

Jan 28th 2016

Unweighted tuning forks can be made to a wide range of frequencies. Medical practitioners use unweighted tuning forks as part of a hearing test. Holistic practitioners use unweighted tuning forks for meditation, relaxation, reducing stress, helping to recognize suppressed emotional trauma and to open to spiritual awareness.Unweighted tuning forks are typically brought to the ears and played around the body but usually not on the body only because the vibration is so feint that you or your client will not feel it and mentally, question whether it is doing anything. It is of course but for working on the physical body, the weighted tuning forks are more popular. I'll cover weighted tuning forks in a separate post.

Unweighted Tuning Forks

Unweighted tuning forks are available as individual tuning forks or in sets. The most popular sets are the Solar Harmonic, Solfeggio tuning forks, Fibonacci tuning forks and Chakra tuning forks. Each of these sets has a particular strength which I cover in separate posts.

When using the unweighted tuning forks, you’ll definitely want to bring them by your ears but there is great benefit to tapping them together. By doing this you you not only activate the healing benefits of the individual tuning fork, you also create what is known as a harmonic. There are a lot of scientific definitions on what a harmonic is but for our purposes lets just say that a harmonic is the vibratory and musical interaction between two or more tuning forks which enhances the healing power of those tuning forks (i.e. it feels great - do it). Seriously, harmonic healing is an experience and cannot be adequately explained. There is a great tuning fork CD called Calendula where you can hear how tuning fork create harmonics.
